Earlier this month, 40 bikers set off on a ride in Bengaluru, from Mission Road to Belur Cross in Hassan. The 200-km ride to Belur Cross was initiated by Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG), along with Pink Hope and Ducati Owners Club. The idea was to create awareness of cancer, support the fight against it, laud cancer survivors and give hope to those who are currently fighting the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rally was a prelude to the launch of the annual SelfV\u2014Survivor Stories campaign. The SelfV platform, which celebrates the invincible spirit of cancer survivors, was launched two years ago. To participate, cancer survivors must record a 60-second self-video capturing the essence of their battle against cancer and upload it on www.selfv.in or www.facebook.com\/hcghospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These stories aim at breaking the negativity associated with the disease and encouraging those undergoing treatment. The contest will go on till end November; an external jury will judge the uploaded videos. The best SelfV videos will make it to the grand finale of SelfV 2016 and the winner will be awarded a Ducati Scrambler superbike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Says Shubankar Nayak, president of Ducati Owners Club: \u201cWe are united in the fight against cancer and proud to be associated with SelfV Survivor Stories campaign, which not only showcases stories of real heroes but also provides a ray of hope that cancer can be conquered.\u201d Naren Nugehalli, secretary of the club is in concurrence. \u201cMost of us have a loved one affected by the dreaded disease,\u201d he says. \u201cI see this as a great opportunity to send out the message that cancer can be defeated. We are participating because we are passionate about riding and want to be part of this noble cause.\u201d Apart from bikers, cancer survivors and others were also a part of the rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Says Vandana Ramnane, a breast cancer survivor: \u201cIt is important to celebrate the spirit of survivors because we need to spread awareness that the disease is curable. Thus, this is the perfect opportunity for all survivors to celebrate with their loved ones, share their stories of hope with others and give them strength.\u201d Vandana is an active member of Pink Hope Support Group and devotes much of her time to counselling cancer patients and survivors. \u201cSelfV Survivor Stories intends to create understanding about cancer in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last two years, we have seen over 700 SelfV videos being uploaded from all around the world. This year, the event was flagged off by bikers supporting the cause,\u201d says Dinesh Madhavan, whose father is a cancer patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
