Cancer?<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel\">\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\r\n<p><br \/>The uncontrolled growth of mutated cells in the oral region is called Oral Cancer. The term Oral Cancer includes cancers of the mouth and the pharynx. It encompasses the lips, the inside lining of the lips and cheeks, the teeth, the gums, most of the tongue, the bottom of the mouth, and the bony roof of the mouth, or hard palate.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Squamous cell carcinoma<\/strong>: The throat and mouth are lined with flat and scale-like squamous cells. Cancer in this region is called squamous cell carcinoma and it accounts for more than 90 percent of the Oral Cancers.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Verrucous carcinoma<\/strong>: About 5 percent of all oral cavity tumors are verrucous carcinoma, which is a type of very slow-growing cancer made up of squamous cells.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Minor salivary gland carcinomas<\/strong>: This includes several kinds of Oral Cancer that can develop on the minor salivary glands, found throughout the lining of the mouth and throat. It includes:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Adenoid cystic carcinoma,<\/li>\r\n<li>Mucoepidermoid carcinoma,<\/li>\r\n<li>Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><br \/><br \/><strong>Lymphomas<\/strong>: Oral Cancers that develop in lymph tissue are known as lymphomas. But the following risk factors increase the probability of occurrence of the disease.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Smoking \u2013<\/strong>\u00a060 % of the cases of Oral Cancer are caused by smoking. Smoking highly increases the risk of developing\u00a0<strong>mouth and oropharyngeal cancer<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Alcohol \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Drinking alcohol increases risk of\u00a0<strong>mouth and oropharyngeal cancer<\/strong>, especially when combined with smoking. 30 % of Oral Cancers are caused by drinking alcohol.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Human papillomavirus (HPV) \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0It is a sexually transmitted disease. HPV 16 and HPV 18 highly increase the risk of Oral Cancer.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Chewing tobacco or betel quid \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Chewing tobacco or betel quid (gutkha) is known to cause mouth and oropharyngeal cancer.<\/li>\r\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Diet \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Lack of vitamins and minerals, such as iron or folic acid, in the diet may result in the development of Oral Cancer.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Family history \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Geneticconditions and earlier instances of the disease in the family increases the risk.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Gender \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Men are twice as likely to develop Oral Cancer as women.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Ultraviolet light<\/strong>: Excessive sun exposure increases the risk of lips cancer.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Age \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Oral cancers are more common among people above 50 years.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Immune system\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Immune systems weakened by certain medications can easily be attacked.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-18 kt-pane_55d744-e1\">\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\">Can Oral Cancer Be Prevented?<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel\">\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\r\n<p><br \/>Not all cases of\u00a0<strong>Oral cavity and oropharyngeal Cancer<\/strong>\u00a0can be prevented, but the risk of developing these Cancers can be greatly reduced by avoiding certain risk factors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Avoid the use tobacco in any form.<\/li>\r\n<li>Limit the use of alcohol.<\/li>\r\n<li>Stay out of the sun.<\/li>\r\n<li>Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and maintain a healthy diet.<\/li>\r\n<li>Avoid HPV infection.<\/li>\r\n<li>Treat pre-cancerous growths.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-19 kt-pane_5f9e6b-69\">\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\">What Are The Stages Of Oral Cancer?<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel\">\r\n<div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\r\n<p><br \/>The most common system used for staging Oral Cancer is TNM staging.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Tumor (T)<\/strong>\u00a0describes the size of the original tumor.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Node (N)<\/strong>\u00a0indicates whether the cancer is present in the lymph nodes.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Metastasis (M)<\/strong>\u00a0refers to whether cancer has spread to other parts of the body.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><br \/><br \/>A number (0-4) or the letter X is assigned to each factor. A higher number indicates increasing severity. The\u00a0<strong>letter X<\/strong>\u00a0means the information could not be assessed. Once the T, N and M scores have been assigned, an overall stage is assigned. If the symptoms and stage of throat cancer are discovered earlier, the individual will have a greater chance of survival.
