Cytarabine Injection
Cytarabine Injection is an antineoplastic agent provided as a sterile solution for intravenous, intrathecal, or subcutaneous administration. Cytarabine is a crystalline powder that is white to off-white, odorless, highly soluble in water, and slightly soluble in alcohol and chloroform.
Cytarabine Injection in combination with other approved anti-cancer drugs is indicated for remission induction in acute non-lymphocytic leukemia in adults and pediatric patients. It is also useful in the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia and the blast phase of chronic myelocytic leukemia. Intrathecal administration is indicated in the prophylaxis and treatment of meningeal leukemia.
Standard induction chemotherapy based on cytarabine and anthracyclines helps 60–80% of younger adult patients achieve complete remission. High-dose cytarabine regimens have shown superior outcomes in preventing relapses and are widely adopted as standard post-remission chemotherapy in AML treatment.
Cytarabine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential fetal harm and serious adverse reactions in infants. Effective contraception is advised during treatment and for up to 6 months after therapy. Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease and monitor under medical supervision.
In induction therapy of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia, the usual dose in combination with other anti-cancer drugs is 100 mg/m²/day by continuous intravenous infusion (Days 1–7) or 100 mg/m² intravenously every 12 hours (Days 1–7).
