Zuvitop
Etoposide Injection
Zuvitop-100 contains Etoposide Injection IP.
Etoposide is a semisynthetic derivative of podophyllotoxin used in the treatment of selected neoplastic diseases.
Its chemical name is 4′-demethylepipodophyllotoxin 9-[4,6-O-(R)-ethylidene-β-D-glucopyranoside].
Etoposide is highly soluble in methanol and chloroform, slightly soluble in ethanol and sparingly soluble in water and ether.
It is made more compatible with aqueous solutions through the use of suitable organic solvents.
The molecular formula of Etoposide is C29H32O13 and its molecular weight is 588.58.
Zuvitop is indicated for the management of the following malignancies:
- Small cell lung cancer
- Malignant lymphomas
- Acute leukaemias
- Testicular tumours
- Bladder cancer
- Trophoblastic diseases
Etoposide phosphate is a prodrug that is converted into its active form, etoposide, through dephosphorylation.
Etoposide acts by interacting with DNA topoisomerase II and inducing breaks in DNA strands.
It may also promote the formation of free radicals.
These actions interfere with DNA replication and cause cell-cycle arrest, primarily during the G2 phase.
The resulting DNA damage and cell-cycle interruption lead to cancer cell death.
Etoposide is a cytotoxic anticancer medicine used in the treatment of cancers including testicular cancer and small cell lung cancer.
Exposure to Etoposide may cause adverse effects involving
- Digestive system
- Blood-forming system
- Respiratory system
- Skin and mucous membranes
- Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions
Patients should be closely monitored for signs of toxicity during treatment.
Because Etoposide may affect blood cell production, regular blood counts may be required during therapy.
Any unusual bleeding, infection, breathing difficulty, severe irritation or allergic symptoms should be reported to the treating doctor immediately.
Recommended Dosage
- Etoposide may be administered at a dose of 70 mg/m² once daily on Days 1 to 4.
- It is used in combination with other approved chemotherapeutic agents.
- The treatment cycle may be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks.
Alternative Regimen
- Etoposide may be administered at a dose of 100 mg/m² once daily on Days 1 to 5.
- It is used in combination with other approved chemotherapeutic agents.
- The treatment cycle may be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks.
The exact dose and treatment schedule should be determined by the treating oncologist according to the patient's condition, treatment protocol and tolerance.
