Zuvitroz
Letrozole Tablets
Zuvitroz tablets contain 2.5 mg of letrozole, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor that reduces estrogen synthesis.
Letrozole is a white to yellowish crystalline powder that is practically odorless, freely soluble in dichloromethane, slightly soluble in ethanol and practically insoluble in water.
Letrozole has a molecular weight of 285.31 and an empirical formula of C17H11N5.
Zuvitroz is indicated for
- Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.
- Extended adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have completed 5 years of adjuvant tamoxifen therapy.
- First- and second-line treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
Letrozole may also be prescribed by healthcare professionals for infertility associated with anovulation.
The growth of some breast cancers is stimulated or maintained by estrogens.
In postmenopausal women, estrogens are mainly produced through the aromatase enzyme, which converts adrenal androgens into estrone and estradiol.
Letrozole is a non-steroidal competitive inhibitor of the aromatase enzyme system. By inhibiting the conversion of androgens to estrogens, it reduces estrogen biosynthesis in peripheral tissues and within hormone-sensitive tumors.
This reduction in estrogen may help decrease tumor mass or delay tumor progression in women with hormone-responsive breast cancer.
Letrozole is generally considered suitable for long-term use when prescribed appropriately.
Because letrozole reduces estrogen levels, prolonged treatment may reduce bone mineral density and increase the risk of osteoporosis or bone fractures.
Patients should remain under regular medical supervision.
Adjuvant Treatment of Early Breast Cancer
The optimal duration of treatment is not definitively established. In clinical studies, the median treatment duration was 5 years. Treatment should be discontinued at disease relapse.
Extended Adjuvant Treatment of Early Breast Cancer
The planned duration of treatment in clinical studies was 5 years. In the final updated analysis, the median treatment duration was 60 months. Treatment should be discontinued at tumor relapse.
First- and Second-Line Treatment of Advanced Breast Cancer
Treatment should continue until tumor progression becomes evident.
Zuvitroz should be taken only as prescribed by the treating healthcare professional.
